Integrative Medicine and Women's Health: Santiago de Compostela hosts the 10th Annual SESMI Congress

The field of integrative health is facing a turning point. The convergence between evidence-based medicine, neuroimmunoendocrine regulation and the holistic vision of the human body finds its greatest exponent in the tenth edition of the Annual Congress of the Spanish Society of Integrative Health and Medicine (SESMI).

Under a program markedly focused on comprehensive women's health at all stages of life, the congress brings together dozens of international experts to analyze everything from ovarian health and metabolism to healthy longevity, integrative oncology and the impact of the exposome on the female biological cycle.

“Reviewing health with a gender perspective is not just a conceptual issue, but a biological necessity. From the microbiota and mitochondrial function to the uterus-brain axis, integrative medicine offers the tools to move from the mere absence of disease to functional fullness.”

Three days of scientific cutting edge and somatic experience

The event will unfold across an intense program combining high-level academic debate, practical exercise prescription workshops and spaces for cultural and bodily immersion:

Exercise prescription and contextual health (Friday 13)

The congress will kick off with the specialized workshop by expert Felipe Isidro on Physical exercise prescription in women: from life stage to real-world practice, laying the foundations of movement as biological medicine. As part of the commemorative celebrations of its tenth anniversary, attendees will experience the emblematic Compostela Experience, which will include a guided walk along the last kilometers of the Camino de Santiago to the Plaza del Obradoiro and the emblematic Pilgrim's Mass.

From fertility to menopause: hormonal and cellular health (Saturday 14)

The central day will be divided into parallel thematic blocks focused on providing concrete answers to current clinical challenges:

  • Gynecological Health and Healthogenesis: With masterful interventions from leading figures such as Dr. Georg Seifert (ESIM) on integrative gynecological oncology, Dr. Elena Carreras and researcher Guadalupe Jiménez-Esquinas, providing a deep look at gender gaps in medical research.
  • Fertility, Pregnancy and Pelvic Physiology: A space where speakers such as Isabel Giralt, Laia Vidal, Laia Casadevall y Stephanie Otto will address the impact of acupuncture, respectful obstetric practice and the biomechanics of the pelvic fascia.
  • Endocrine Axis, Skin and Estrobolome: Workshops dedicated to hepatic estrogen detoxification (Carlos González), dermatological neuroimmunoendocrinology (Christina Schepers) and the response to pain and chronic inflammation (Dr. Alejandra Menassa).
  • The Wisdom of Menopause and Management of Sequelae: Comprehensive analysis of hormone therapy with Dr. Alexandra Henríquez, adipose inflammation and blocked metabolism with Dr. Teresa Lajo, and the management of sequelae after medicalization or oncological processes with specialists such as Dr. Natalia Eres and the Dr. Alan González.

Longevity, biomechanics and somatic wisdom (Sunday 15)

The congress closing will focus on healthy aging and body reconnection. After a morning session of Qi Gong applied to the pelvic floor led by Fernando Salgado, the panel Maturing in Fullness will address osteoporosis, sarcopenia and cardiovascular risk alongside physicians such as Dr. Sergio Mejía and the Dr. José Serres.

The event will conclude with the keynote lecture by Dr. Pilar Muñoz Calero (Embryology of the Universe), the highlight of three days dedicated to redrawing the future of medical practice in Spain.

Nutritional innovation and clinical evidence

In parallel to the academic presentations, leading firms in nutraceuticals and immuno-nutrition such as Puro Omega, Vitae Health Innovation, Pharma Nord, HOP Biologics, NORSAN, Equisalud, Uriach and Laboratorio LCN will present the latest scientific findings on the role of Coenzyme Q10 in menopausal brain fogthe Akkermansia muciniphila in the intestinal barrier, selenium in thyroid optimization and the use of Omega-3 fatty acids against inflammaging female.

With this tenth edition, SESMI reaffirms its leadership as the benchmark scientific forum for professionals in medicine, nutrition and complementary therapies seeking to integrate cutting-edge science with a deeply human and biology-respecting approach.
