The article includes cases such as <strong>Sylvia O'Brien<\/strong>who struggled for years to get doctors to recognise her husband's symptoms of dementia, or that of <strong>Kitty Peterson<\/strong>who, after feeling neglected by doctors, turned to online forums and alternative treatments. She also mentions <strong>Jeremy Gurewitz<\/strong>who, after his mother's bad experience with the healthcare system, founded a company to help patients navigate the medical bureaucracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanidad.gob.es\/estadEstudios\/estadisticas\/BarometroSanitario\/home_BS.htm\"> <strong>Health Barometer 2024<\/strong><\/a> of the Spanish Ministry of Health presents an overview of the <strong>positive and stable<\/strong> of the health system in Spain. Perception of health care: reality vs. survey<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spanish Ministry of Health version:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>83.1% of patients<\/strong> values Primary Care positively.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>81.8% of patients<\/strong> who saw a specialist are satisfied.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>87.9% of hospitalised patients<\/strong> report that they have been treated well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What The Wall Street Journal says:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trust in doctors <strong>has fallen drastically<\/strong>with a decrease from 67% to 53% in positive perceptions in the US.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical visits are increasingly <strong>brief and depersonalised<\/strong>This leads to frustration among patients.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many citizens seek <strong>medical information on social media and Google<\/strong>reflecting a <strong>loss of confidence in traditional medical diagnosis<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inconsistencies:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The high <strong>reported satisfaction<\/strong> by the Spanish Ministry of Health <strong>is not in line with the reality observed in similar health systems.<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No mention is made of problems such as <strong>depersonalisation of care<\/strong>the <strong>lack of communication between specialists<\/strong> or the <strong>medical staff burnout<\/strong>which are recurrent complaints in other countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Waiting lists and accessibility<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spanish Ministry of Health version:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>22.3% of patients in Primary Care<\/strong> were seen the same day or the next day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The average waiting time for primary care is 8.7 days.<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The 38% of patients<\/strong> waited <strong>more than three months<\/strong> to be seen by a specialist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What The Wall Street Journal says:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Delay in care is a <strong>key factor in the loss of confidence<\/strong> in the system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many patients seek <strong>private care<\/strong> or alternative information due to the <strong>slowness and unresponsiveness of the public system<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty in obtaining timely appointments leads many people to <strong>opt for self-medication or seeking help on social networks<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inconsistencies:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Yes <strong>almost half of patients have to wait more than three months for a specialist<\/strong>How is it possible that 81.8% rate the care received positively?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No problems mentioned <strong>structural<\/strong> as the <strong>lack of medical personnel<\/strong> or the saturation of the system, which are recurrent themes in citizens' complaints.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"855\" height=\"727\" src=\"https:\/\/wellnessforum.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/ministra-salud-espanola.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4497\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wellnessforum.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/ministra-salud-espanola.png 855w, https:\/\/wellnessforum.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/ministra-salud-espanola-300x255.png 300w, https:\/\/wellnessforum.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/ministra-salud-espanola-768x653.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 855px) 100vw, 855px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Equity in health care<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spanish Ministry of Health version:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No inequalities of care are identified by <strong>socio-economic status, age or country of origin<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, a <strong>38.7% perceives inequality according to autonomous community<\/strong> and a <strong>35.5% believes that technology management influences quality of care<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What The Wall Street Journal says:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the US, there are <strong>evidence of medical bias<\/strong>where certain groups (older people, ethnic minorities, uninsured patients) <strong>receive worse medical care<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The lack of <strong>personalised attention<\/strong> and the <strong>medical bias<\/strong> generate greater distrust in certain sectors of the population.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patients should <strong>repeatedly explain their history to different doctors<\/strong>which leads to a <strong>loss of confidence in the continuity of treatment<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inconsistencies:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Ministry of Health downplays inequalities in access to health care in Spain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is no mention of the <strong>increasing use of private healthcare<\/strong>which has increased significantly in recent years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nor does it recognise the <strong>impact of bureaucracy and lack of coordination among doctors<\/strong>This is an obvious problem in other countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Use of digital health and alternative medicine<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spanish Ministry of Health version:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>40.1% has ever accessed his or her electronic health record<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>60% knows that you can pick up medicines at any pharmacy with an electronic prescription.<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What The Wall Street Journal says:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Many patients have <strong>abandoned traditional healthcare<\/strong> and resort to <strong>alternative medicine<\/strong> lack of trust in doctors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The number of people seeking information is growing <strong>on TikTok, Google or health forums<\/strong>instead of consulting a professional.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patients with chronic diseases <strong>pay for medical defenders<\/strong> to navigate the bureaucracy of the healthcare system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inconsistencies:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Ministry presents the <strong>digitisation of healthcare<\/strong> as a breakthrough, but <strong>no mention of the impact of the digital divide<\/strong> in care.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Omitted is the <strong>the rise of alternative medicine<\/strong> or the fact that <strong>many patients prefer online forums to seeing a doctor<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A distorted official version of reality<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanidad.gob.es\/gabinete\/notasPrensa.do?id=6627#:~:text=El%20nivel%20de%20satisfacci%C3%B3n%20con,las%20cuatro%20%C3%A1reas%20asistenciales%20analizadas.\"><strong>Health Barometer 2024<\/strong> <\/a>of the Spanish Ministry of Health <strong>presents a made-up vision<\/strong> of the health system, in which <strong>structural problems are minimised<\/strong> and omit key issues such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mistrust of the system<\/strong> and the increasing search for medical alternatives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Excessive waiting time<\/strong> for specialists and surgeries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The impact of medical saturation<\/strong> in the quality of care.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lack of real equity<\/strong> in access to health care according to autonomous community or socio-economic level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While the analysis based on the US case shows a <strong>widespread dissatisfaction with the health system<\/strong>the Spanish version seems to focus on <strong>minimising problems<\/strong> and highlighting positive figures without a thorough analysis of the actual patient experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although public health care in Spain is of high quality in comparison with other countries, the <strong>increasing use of private insurance, dissatisfaction with waiting lists and the search for medical alternatives<\/strong> reflect a more complex reality that the Ministry is not fully addressing.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Un an\u00e1lisis publicado por The Wall Street Journal expone la creciente desconfianza en el sistema de salud estadounidense, basada en testimonios reales de pacientes y m\u00e9dicos.
