E1 Series, the electric Formula 1 of the sea, will pass through Puerto Banús

Puerto Banús will be one of the world headquarters of the E1The Electric Formula 1 of the sea, a new sport with the only electric motor authorised by the International Union of Motonautics. The E1 Cívitas Puerto Banús Grand Prix will be held on 1 and 2 June 2024. The E1 championship will be held in 2024 in 9 international locations such as Monaco, Hong Kong, Geneva and Venice, among others, to which Puerto Banús, in Marbella, will be added.

On 1 and 2 June, the ten teams, captained by some of the world's leading sports and entertainment personalities such as Tom Brady, Rafael Nadal, Steve Aoki and Novak Djokovic, among others, will compete.

"We are talking about personalities who, together with the members of the teams, have more than 1.1 billion followers from all over the world on social networks, ambassadors of this competition who will also be ambassadors of our destination during the 1st and 2nd of June, which will become another boost to the tourism/sport binomial that we are so proud of on the Costa del Sol.

In addition, all the teams will be made up of a man and a woman, who will compete in identical boats in terms of technical characteristics and the same time in the races. The riders are professionals from the Dakar, Trial, W Series or Formula Ford. Spain will be represented by Laia Sanz and Cris Lazarraga, both of them international references in motor racing.

The most international sustainable event of 2024

The E1 Cívitas Puerto Banús Grand Prix is presented as the sustainable event with the greatest projection of 2024, as it will be free of CO2 emissions, betting on the generation of electric energy, hydrogen charging, biodegradable packaging, plastic-free bottles, recyclable trophies, food saving policy and sustainable logistics.

It will also include other parallel activities related to sustainability and respect for the marine environment, which will be announced shortly.

The impact is estimated at 22 million TV viewers, 58 million digital TV views and 20 million social media interactions.

"It will undoubtedly be a unique spectacle in the Iberian Peninsula that will attract the attention of the whole world," said the president of the Diputación de Málaga.

The competition

The event will start on the first Saturday of June 1st in Puerto Banús, when the teams will compete in the qualifying races, and on Sunday 2nd June will be the semi-final and final. The inauguration will feature a musical performance by an international star.

In addition, the VIP stands will accommodate some 3,000 people, with the hospitality of the competition being assured at the same level as that of F1 or ATP.

The format of the races will be as follows:
R1 - Qualification
R2 - ¼ final
R3- Semi-finals
R4 - 4 teams will race in the final

Vessels

All teams will race in the identical RaceBird boat, with the skills of the pilots taking precedence in order to reach the podium.
