The European Association for the Study of Diabetes e.V. (EASD) is a non-profit academic membership-based organisation. It was founded in 1965 and is based in Düsseldorf, Germany.
EASD is a network of diabetologists with active members from all over the world. Membership is open to scientists, physicians, students, postdocs and fellows, allied health professionals and nurses who are interested in the field of diabetes or related diseases.
The EASD Annual Meeting is one of the largest diabetes conferences in the world and attracts thousands of delegates each year. The scientific programme includes hundreds of talks, presentations and discussions on the latest findings in basic and clinical diabetes research.
The Association is also a leading player in postgraduate education, having trained thousands of health professionals through specific training courses and online educational activities, and is actively involved in the production and endorsement of statements and guidelines, translating the latest results of diabetes research into best practice in diabetes management.
By creating the Early Career Academy, EASD increased its commitment to support, train, mentor and create opportunities for early and mid-career scientists, clinicians and students in the field of diabetes.
In 2000, the EASD founded the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD) to stimulate diabetes research in Europe. EFSD provides support in all areas of diabetes research through a wide range of joint and independent initiatives. Funding sources are available throughout the year and, since its inception, the EFSD has committed more than €120 million to diabetes research in Europe.
EASD is also the editor of Diabetologia, a leading international monthly journal on diabetes with an impact factor of 8.2 (2022). The journal publishes original clinical, translational and experimental research on all aspects of diabetes and related topics.
